The UNC volleyball team fell to 1-5 to begin the 2019 season on Friday night in Rochester, Michigan, losing 3-1 in four sets to the Miami (Ohio) Redhawks (19-25, 23-25, 25-22, 23-25).
Each of the last three sets were decided by three points or fewer, but it was Miami (Ohio) that made the plays that mattered most in order to steal the win and improve its season record up to 4-3.
Parker Austin led the Tar Heels offensively with 12 kills, while Destiny Cox and Skyy Howard each chipped in 10 apiece.
UNC posted a .177 hitting percentage, but Miami’s wasn’t much better at .183. It simply came to down to who could win the points in crunch time, which went in favor of the Redhawks.
