A trio of home runs late in the game Sunday at Boshamer Stadium helped carry the UNC baseball team to an 8-6 victory over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons to complete the weekend series sweep.
While trailing 4-1, the Tar Heels (18-10, 8-4 ACC) tied the game with a big three-run blast from Zack Gahagan in the bottom of the sixth inning. After that, Brandon Martorano hit a solo shot in the eighth inning followed by a two-run homer from Brandon Riley in the same frame that served as the difference on the scoreboard.
This came after Wake Forest (11-17) had taken a 6-5 lead in the top half of the inning on an RBI double by Logan Harvey.
Senior reliever Brett Daniels earned the win on the mound for the Tar Heels after tossing the last three innings while striking out four Wake Forest hitters.
