Looking to avenge last season’s loss in the national championship match, UNC senior Hayley Carter earned the No. 2 overall seed for this year’s NCAA Women’s Tennis Singles Tournament.

The top seed a year ago, Carter (35-3) leads a group of three Tar Heels who will participate in the 64-player event.

While Carter–the two-time ACC Player of the Year–picked up an automatic bid by virtue of winning the conference tournament, sophomore Jessie Aney (35-6, ranked No. 35) and freshman Sara Daavettila (39-8, ranked No. 18) garnered two of the NCAA’s 52 at-large bids.

Carter and Aney will also be competing together in the NCAA Doubles Tournament. The duo is currently ranked No. 4 nationally.

UNC is the nation’s No. 2 seed in the NCAA Team Tournament, which is set to begin on Saturday–when the Tar Heels take on Furman in Chapel Hill.
