UNC junior Mimi Leonard was recognized Monday by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association as a Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I Scholar of Distinction.

The award recognizes Division I field hockey athletes who had a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.9 through the Fall 2019 semester.

Leonard–a business administration major who transferred to UNC from Saint Louis last summer–has a perfect 4.0 GPA. This is her third year in a row earning this honor, having done so in each of three years in college.

She appeared in four games off the bench for the Tar Heels in 2019, as they put together their second consecutive undefeated season and won their second straight national championship.
