The UNC baseball team improved its record to 4-0 to start the 2021 season on Tuesday at Boshamer Stadium, as the Tar Heels defeated Elon by a score of 4-1.
Justice Thompson had two hits in the game for the Tar Heels, and scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the fourth inning to give UNC an early 1-0 lead.
The Tar Heels then tripled that lead later in the inning when Angel Zarate’s single drove home Brett Centracchio and Tomas Frick.
Centracchio would go on to add another insurance run with an RBI double in the seventh inning, a response to Elon finally breaking through for its first–and only–run in the top half of the sixth frame.
On the mound, Will Sandy earned the win after throwing five shutout innings–allowing just one hit during that time.
Elon finished the game having recorded just four hits total.
Up Next:
The Tar Heels host Virginia for a three-game ACC series scheduled to run from Thursday through Saturday. This will be the opening conference series for each team. First pitch on Thursday is set for 4 p.m.
