The UNC football team received a huge boost on Wednesday, when the NCAA approved a waiver request which will allow freshman defensive back Cam’Ron Kelly to play immediately.
Kelly was a four-star recruit who originally committed to Virginia Tech before flipping his commitment to Auburn, where he enrolled this past January.
When health issues arose for his mother and sister, the Chesapeake, Virginia native decided in April to transfer to UNC so he could be closer to home.
At 6-foot-1, Kelly adds size and talent to a UNC secondary that can definitely use more heading into this Saturday’s season opener in Charlotte against South Carolina.
He is expected to see playing time against the Gamecocks.
