After winning the Fox Sports Ultimate Fan Bracket last spring, a billboard proclaiming UNC men’s basketball fans the best in America was recently put up in Durham.
Sitting in the heart of Duke territory, the billboard is located on Interstate 85 just outside downtown Durham.
The fan bracket was conducted entirely on Twitter by Fox Sports, and matched the NCAA Tournament by including 68 schools. More than 2.3 million total votes were cast in the event.
UNC was a No. 1 seed in the project and defeated No. 10 seed BYU in the final round by a narrow margin.
“Watching this bracket play out taught me a ton about fan bases from all over the country,” “Titus & Tate” college basketball podcast co-host Mark Titus said back in April. “And the biggest lesson of all is that North Carolina fans’ desire to put a billboard in Duke’s backyard just might be the strongest force in college basketball.”
