UNC’s Garrison Brooks and Janelle Bailey were each selected Tuesday as candidates for this year’s Senior CLASS Awards in men’s and women’s basketball.
Brooks and Bailey were each one of 30 players selected among their respective sports for the honor, which celebrates student-athletes who excel both on and off the court.
Eligibility for the Senior CLASS award requires players to be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
Brooks was named the Preseason ACC Player of the Year prior to the season, while Bailey is among the 10 finalists for the Lisa Leslie Award for the third consecutive season. Brooks, a senior forward, is averaging 10.5 points and 7.1 rebounds for the UNC men’s basketball program. Bailey, a senior as well, is averaging 13.9 points and 8.1 rebounds, both of which lead the rest of this year’s UNC women’s basketball team.
The men’s and women’s candidates for the award will be narrowed down to 10 finalists later this month, with winners announced during the 2021 Men’s Final Four in Indianapolis and the 2021 Women’s Final Four in San Antonio.
