Earlier this week, the Atlantic Coast Conference came out with public support for a new proposed NCAA rule which would allow student-athletes to transfer one time without being forced to sit out an entire year before competing.

This made the league the second major conference to voice support for the proposal, as the ACC joined the Big Ten.

The current rules allow athletes to use a one-time transfer to play immediately in any sport except FBS football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball and men’s ice hockey. Players who have already graduated can play immediately in any sport.

UNC has taken advantage of the graduate transfer rule in recent years in regards to men’s basketball, with Cameron Johnson, Justin Pierce and Christian Keeling each joining the program in that manner within the last three years.
