Another UNC football star is drawing a preseason accolade, this time one that combines on-field and off-field performance.

Senior wide receiver Beau Corrales was named to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award watchlist on Friday. The award recognizes top offensive players in college football who also exhibit sportsmanship, teamwork and determination in honor of Pro Football Hall of Famer Earl Campbell. Specifically, the award recognizes those who have recently recovered from injuries in pursuit of their goals.

This is the second straight year Corrales has been named to the award’s preseason watchlist.

Corrales chose to return to Chapel Hill after his promising 2020 season was cut short due to injury. He scored a career-high six touchdowns in 2019, and looks to be a favorite target for quarterback Sam Howell this season.

The award is only given to athletes who were born in Texas, went to high school in the state or graduated from a Texas university. Corrales is originally from Georgetown, T.X.
