On Labor Day, the UNC men’s soccer team did work.

Carolina continued its unbeaten start by trouncing East Tennessee State 6-0 on Monday night. It’s the most goals the Tar Heels have scored in a single match since August 26, 2021.

UNC’s Luke Hille and Martin Vician each scored two goals in the rout and paced a Tar Heel attack which dominated possession. Carolina outshot the Buccaneers 19-8 and held a 12-3 advantage in shots on goal. On the other side of the field, UNC keeper Andrew Cordes made three saves to record the clean sheet.

Hille, a transfer from NC State, scored his first goal as a Tar Heel in the seventh minute and added his second early in the second half. Charlie Harper and Sam Williams each added goals to make it 4-0 in the 82nd minute before Vician struck from the penalty spot. Vician found the back of the net one more time in the 89th minute to complete his brace.

Carolina is now 3-0-1 on the young season and has allowed just one goal in those four matches. The Tar Heels will complete the homestand on Friday night when they host St. John’s at Dorrance Field at 7 p.m.
