Carolina will visit Memphis in the first-ever Hoops for St. Jude Tip-Off Classic, a preseason charity exhibition benefiting St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. Eastern time on October 15 in Memphis’ FedExForum, and the game will be broadcast on ESPNU.
According to the program, tickets will be available starting on Saturday, September 14 at 11 a.m. through Ticketmaster or the FedExForum box office.
The Tar Heels and Tigers could potentially meet multiple times over the course of the 2024-25 season, as the two teams will both play in the Maui Invitational as well. Memphis finished 22-10 overall and 11-7 in the American Athletic Conference last season. The Tigers reached as high as No. 10 in the AP Poll, but failed to qualify for the NCAA Tournament after a midseason losing streak. The team has reached the tournament twice in six seasons under head coach Penny Hardaway. Like UNC head coach Hubert Davis, Hardaway is coaching his alma mater after a career in the NBA.
This will be the first time Carolina has played a preseason charity game with Davis as the head coach. The contest against Memphis is the second exhibition game announced by UNC, with another scheduled against Johnson C. Smith in the Smith Center on October 27.
