Head coach Hubert Davis and the UNC men’s basketball team will take a trip to New England this weekend. The Tar Heels are one of four teams taking part in the Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament in Uncasville, CT. The tournament will feature two semifinals played on Saturday, followed by a championship and consolation game on Sunday.
Rounding out the field with Carolina are No. 5 Villanova, No. 17 Tennessee and UNC’s opponent in its first game, No. 6 Purdue. The winner between the Tar Heels and Boilermakers on Saturday will take on the winner between the Wildcats and Volunteers on Sunday afternoon, with the losers facing off later that day.
Broadcast Schedule
Those hoping to listen on the radio can do so at 97.9 FM and 1360 AM, or by streaming the radio broadcast on Chapelboro.com.
97.9 The Hill’s radio coverage of UNC’s semifinal will begin at right at tip-off at 4 p.m., after the conclusion of the UNC football game vs. Wofford. Dave Nathan will be doing play-by-play of the basketball action, as Jones Angell will be in Chapel Hill for the football game. The Tar Heel Sports Network will also carry postgame coverage for approximately an hour after the conclusion of the basketball game.
Depending on the result of the UNC vs. Purdue game, 97.9 The Hill will also carry either the championship game on Sunday at 1 p.m. or the consolation game at 3:30 p.m. Pregame coverage will begin an hour before tip-off for either game. Should UNC play at 1 p.m., postgame coverage of that game would be immediately followed by pregame coverage of the UNC women’s basketball team’s game against TCU at 4 p.m. Should the men play at 3:30 p.m., the women’s basketball game would not be broadcast.
All of these broadcasts will be available live on the radio or by streaming on Chapelboro.com.
TV Schedule
The UNC vs. Purdue game will be broadcast on ESPNews at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The second game on Sunday will either be on ABC at 1 p.m. if UNC wins, or on ESPN at 3:30 p.m. if UNC loses. The Triangle’s ABC affiliate is WTVD. As of today, Spectrum, AT&T, Dish and DirectTV all carry ABC, which is among the ESPN family of networks.
What if I don’t have cable?
A live stream will be available on ESPN’s online platforms. Additionally, several cord-cutting options carry the ESPN family.
YouTube TV prices at $65/month and carries all of ESPN’s channels (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, etc.).
Hulu TV also goes for $65/month and includes all ESPN channels, but does not carry MLB Network, NBA TV or NFL Red Zone.
Sling TV is the cheapest at $35/month for the Orange package. Make sure to avoid Sling Blue, as that package does not carry ESPN. For more information about Sling’s coverage of local channels such as WTVD, click here.
