The UNC men’s and women’s lacrosse teams both earned comfortable wins on Tuesday evening, with the men dominating Wagner on the road and the women defeating East Carolina 14-6 at Dorrance Field.

The Tar Heel men left no doubt in their visit to Staten Island, racing out to an 11-0 lead barely 20 minutes into the contest. Carolina led the Seahawks 13-1 at halftime thanks to a Dominic Pietramala goal with two seconds remaining, then cruised through the second half to win 18-4. Freshman star Owen Duffy led Carolina with five goals, while Pietramala added four and Lance Tillman two. Logan McGovern dished out a team-high seven assists. As a team, Carolina outshot Wagner 59-21 and held a 38-9 advantage in shots on goal.

The Tar Heels are now 5-2 overall on the season and have won three straight. Carolina will stay up north through the weekend, as the team will next visit Stony Brook on Saturday at noon.

The women’s team got off to a fast start of its own against East Carolina, leading 6-2 at the end of the first quarter after a 4-0 run in the final 7:58. That run extended to 5-0 after Julia O’Connor scored 51 seconds into the second quarter, and UNC’s lead was never seriously threatened from there. The Pirates never got closer than a three-goal deficit.

Oddly enough, a high-scoring first half (11-6 Carolina) gave way to a scoreless third quarter, but the Tar Heels got back on the scoreboard with three unanswered goals in the fourth. ECU didn’t score at all in the second half and only registered five shots.

Caroline Godine led the way for UNC with a hat trick and fired a team-high 10 shots (ECU as a team had only 13). Five different Tar Heels scored twice, including Olivia Dirks and Caitlyn Wurzburger. Wurzburger added three assists for a team-best five points.

The Tar Heels are now 6-2 overall after Tuesday’s win. The non-conference season is mostly over; six of Carolina’s final seven games will come against ACC opponents. That includes a challenging road matchup on Saturday, as UNC will visit No. 7 Syracuse at the JMA Wireless Dome. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network.
