It was a fruitful holiday weekend for head coach Mack Brown and the UNC football program. The Tar Heels received seven commitments from players in the Class of 2023, which is being dubbed by those within the program as the “Jordan Class.” While the class isn’t quite as star-studded as the 2022 class yet, it’s still set up to be one of the best in the ACC. Here’s a look at each of the seven recent commitments:

DE Jaybron Harvey (Durham, N.C.)

Harvey is the highest-rated recruit in UNC’s 2023 class. 247 Sports grades Harvey as a four-star prospect and a 92 overall. An edge rusher from Southern High School in Durham, Harvey is ranked as the No. 6 player in the state and the No. 188 player overall nationally. He committed to UNC over offers from Oklahoma, Louisville and South Carolina, among others. 247 Sports describes Harvey as “incredibly productive” and a “high-level athlete.”

WR Christian Hamilton (Harrisburg, N.C.)

Hamilton is the highest-rated offensive player in the 2023 class, and is just behind Harvey in 247’s rankings. Hamilton is also graded as a four-star prospect and the No. 8 player in North Carolina. He chose the Tar Heels over offers from Texas A&M, Auburn and Appalachian State. Hamilton’s commitment came just a week after visiting the UNC campus in late June.

WR Chris Culliver (Maiden, N.C.)

Another in-state get for Brown, Culliver committed to Carolina on July 4. Like Hamilton and Harvey, Culliver is rated as a four-star prospect, though he is just outside the top 10 in-state players, sitting at No. 12. At six feet, three inches, Culliver projects to be one of the taller wide receivers on the Carolina roster when he arrives on campus. He chose Carolina over offers from Virginia Tech and Appalachian State. Notably, Culliver announced his decision after visiting with the Hokies.

DE Tyler Thompson (Cary, N.C.)

From nearby Panther Creek High School, Thompson is the most local of UNC’s commitments thus far. A three-star edge rusher rated as the No. 21 player in North Carolina, Thompson announced his decision just five days after taking an official visit to Chapel Hill, and just 22 days after receiving a scholarship offer. He chose the Tar Heels over offers from Boston College, Appalachian State and, notably, Michigan.

OL Robert Grigsby (Kennesaw, GA)

One of three Georgians in the 2023 class, Grigsby took an official visit to Chapel Hill on June 24 (along with several other commits), and announced his decision seven days later. Grigsby was also strongly considering NC State, having named them as a finalist and having taken both an unofficial and official visit to Raleigh within the past four months. But Grigsby’s visit to UNC swayed his choice, and gives Brown a solid recruiting victory over the Wolfpack.

S Zachary Tobe (Ocoee, FL)

One of just two 2023 defensive backs to commit to UNC thus far, Tobe represents a recruiting win for the newly-arrived Charlton Warren. Tobe is a two-sport athlete, competing in track on the 110-meter hurdles. Tobe took multiple official visits in June, visiting Boston College, Illinois and Iowa before stopping in Chapel Hill on June 24. Four days later, he committed to the Tar Heels.

OL D.J. Geth (Roebuck, S.C.)

The only South Carolinian to commit to UNC thus far, Roebuck was initially predicted to commit to the Gamecocks. In fact, Geth was not with several of his future teammates in Chapel Hill on June 24, but rather in Columbia. That visit came 16 days after Geth took an official visit to Chapel Hill, but apparently was not enough to keep him in-state. Geth committed to Carolina on July 2, spurning offers from the Gamecocks, Coastal Carolina and Appalachian State.
