Mack Brown secured another big win on the recruiting trail Saturday, as four-star wide receiver Alex Taylor from Greensboro’s Grimsley High School announced his commitment to the Tar Heels. Taylor chose Carolina over several other finalists, including NC State, Clemson, Penn State and Virginia Tech.
Inside Carolina and 247 Sports grade Taylor as the No. 3 prospect in the state of North Carolina, No. 26 wide receiver in the country and No. 154 overall player in the class of 2024, making him the top-ranked recruit to join the UNC class. He joins safety Malcolm Ziglar as the second four-star prospect in the class.
Taylor showed out in 2022 for Grimsley, eclipsing the 1,000-yard mark and catching 12 touchdowns. He caught seven touchdowns as a sophomore in 2021, when he and current Tar Heel defensive lineman Travis Shaw helped lead the Whirlies to a state title.
Though not quite as highly-touted a prospect as Shaw, Taylor is still a prized get for Brown and the Tar Heels, whose 2024 recruiting class now stands at 25 players and is ranked No. 22 in the country. Eight of the 25 commits are from the state of North Carolina.
