UNC Finley Golf Course will be hosting the National Putt, Drive, and Chip qualifiers on tomorrow, July 5th, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Senior Assistant Golf Professional at UNC Finley Golf Course, Frank Maynard, will be there during the event. Here, he explains what the event is all about.
“There’s 256 qualifiers around the country, and we’re hosting one of those sites,” says Maynard, “200 boys and girls, ages 7 to 15. The top three point-getters in each age group will advance to another qualifier in Greensboro, and then another one in Virginia, and eventually go to Augusta National in April of 2015.”
Maynard also says that this event serves as an important aid in helping young children to kindle a love for golf.
“I just think it’s a great event for boys and girls to get excited and learn the game of golf,” says Maynard. “Hopefully, this will get them to want to play more, utilize their local golf facilities, and get out there to play a little golf. It’s a great event that was started last year by the Augusta National Golf Club. It’s free of charge for these kids to do this. It should be a great start or future to their golfing career.”
