The Tar Heels had no trouble at No. 11 Liberty on Sunday afternoon, shutting out the Flames 7-0 to improve to 6-0 on the season. It’s also Carolina’s fifth win away from home this year.
Reigning national player of the year Ryleigh Heck equaled her goal output for the season with a hat trick, recording more total shots (eight) than the entire Flames team (two). Heck added two assists for a team-high five points. Charly Bruder added a pair of goals, while Sanne Hak and Sietske Brรผning each scored once.
As a team, Carolina amassed 25 total shots (14 on goal) and took five penalty corners while holding the Flames without a corner for the entirety of the game. UNC goalie Abigail Taylor stopped the only two Liberty shots she saw to record her fourth straight shutout. The Tar Heels have only allowed two goals through the season’s first six games.
UNC will have the next weekend off. Up next for the Tar Heels is a trip out west to face ACC debutantes Stanford and Cal. The first matchup against the Cardinal is scheduled for Friday, October 4 at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
