Carolina continued its dominance over the ACC field hockey circuit by defeating No. 3 seed Boston College 4-1 in the conference championship game in Winston-Salem on Friday. It’s UNC’s eighth straight ACC Tournament title and 27th in program history.

After a scoreless first quarter, UNC got on the board early in the second thanks for first team All-ACC honoree and tournament MVP Charly Bruder’s 26th goal of the season. Ciana Riccardo doubled the lead 10 minutes later with her first goal of 2024, and Carolina took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Sanne Hak scored on a penalty stroke midway through the third quarter, a period in which the Tar Heels outshot the Eagles 8-0. Ryleigh Heck added UNC’s fourth goal less than two minutes into the fourth quarter before Boston College scored in the final moments.

The Tar Heels held decisive advantages in total shots (18-8), shots on goal (9-3) and penalty corners (16-3). Carolina’s 16 penalty corners are its most in a game all season. In the UNC cage, goalie Abigail Taylor made two saves before being subbed off with 3:02 remaining on the clock.

Carolina is now 18-0 on the season and has won 25 straight games overall. The Tar Heels will learn their NCAA Tournament path during the tournament selection show, which is scheduled for Sunday night at 10 p.m.
