Both the UNC men’s and women’s basketball teams will square off against Oklahoma in the 2023 installment of the Jumpman Invitational in Charlotte this coming December. For both programs, it’s the first meeting against the Sooners since the 2008-09 season.
The men’s team is coming off a win against Michigan in last season’s inaugural Jumpman Invitational, which was also played in Charlotte. The Tar Heels are 3-0 all-time against Oklahoma, with two of those games coming in the NCAA Tournament. The most recent meeting saw Carolina easily defeat the Sooners in the 2009 Elite Eight on its way to a national championship. Another memorable game came in 1990, when the Tar Heels upset No. 1 Oklahoma in the second round of the tournament on a buzzer-beater by Rick Fox. The 2023 game is scheduled for December 20, with a tip-off time to be announced.
The women’s team is coming off a loss to Michigan in last year’s event. The Tar Heels are 2-2 all-time against Oklahoma, winning the last matchup 80-79 on the road. This season’s matchup will be the first against the Sooners under head coach Courtney Banghart. The game will tip off on December 19, with a tip-off time to be announced.
