The UNC men’s and women’s basketball programs are teaming up with the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation and the V Foundation for Cancer Research to host the first-ever Dribble for Victory Over Cancer on the UNC campus. The event will raise funds for pediatric cancer research, and is set to be held on August 28 at Carmichael Arena.
Registration for the event will begin at 10 a.m. at the arena, with a welcome ceremony at 11 and the official start of the event at 11:15. Participants, alongside men’s and women’s basketball players, will dribble basketballs from Carmichael Arena to the Old Well, then to the Bell Tower and back to Carmichael.
Dribble for Victory Over Cancer is in its 15th year nationally. It originally started at UCLA and St. John’s, and since then has raised more than $2 million for cancer research. This is the first year UNC is participating in the event.
“UNC Children’s is proud and honored to partner with the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation and the V Foundation,” said Keela Lyon, Senior Executive Director of Development and Communications for UNC Children’s Hospital. “Kids with cancer need as much support as we can muster and this event has demonstrated that it can inspire the public to contribute to pediatric cancer research.”
