The Diamond Heels’ ACC Tournament repeat hopes were washed away in the Durham drizzle on Saturday afternoon, as Carolina fell to Clemson 10-4 in the ACC semifinals. It’s UNC’s fourth loss to Clemson in the span of nine days.

The Tigers jumped in front immediately, striking for five runs in the bottom of the first inning. Carolina starter Connor Bovair only got two outs and was pulled after 25 pitches, all the Clemson runs being charged to him. On the other side, Tiger starter Caden Grice logged seven strong innings and struck out nine Tar Heels.

The loss snaps a seven-game winning streak in ACC Tournament play for Carolina. Still, UNC is almost surely safely within the NCAA Tournament field. Numerous projections have the Tar Heels as a No. 2 seed, though their host region has been listed as anywhere from Auburn to Stanford to South Carolina. UNC won’t find out its bracket assignment until Monday, when the entire field is revealed at noon.
