The Diamond Heels used more strong pitching to beat Texas Tech 4-2 at Boshamer Stadium on Saturday and complete a sweep of the Red Raiders in the opening series of the 2025 season. It’s the second straight year Carolina has begun the season with a sweep.

Four UNC pitchers combined to shut down the Texas Tech bats. Starter Olin Johnson lasted 2.1 innings before yielding to true freshman Camron Seagraves, who didn’t allow a hit and struck out two in the first 1.2 innings of his college career. Ryan Lynch, another true freshman, pitched the next four innings and struck out seven Red Raiders to earn his first collegiate win. Matthew Matthijs pitched around two hits in the top of the ninth to earn his first save of the season.

At the plate, Carolina answered a Texas Tech run in the top of the first inning with three in the bottom of the frame, two of which came on a single from Rom Kellis. A Sam Angelo sacrifice fly brought home the third run. Kane Kepley brought in Jackson Van De Brake with an RBI groundout in the bottom of the fourth, which was more than enough run support for the UNC pitchers.

Carolina will remain at home this week, though the Diamond Heels’ schedule has changed due to Wednesday’s expected weather. UNC will host Kansas State at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Here's the Complete Bracket for the 2025 ACC Baseball Tournament
The ACC Baseball Tournament returns to Durham Bulls Athletic Park in downtown Durham this week. The tournament will begin Tuesday, May 20 and conclude Sunday, May 25. The tournament has a new format this season, moving away from the "Pool Play" model used in years past. This season, the tournament is a simple, single-elimination tournament which mirrors the brackets for the men's and women's basketball tournaments. The top four teams receive double-byes into the quarterfinals, while the teams seeded 5-8 receive byes into the second round. The teams seeded 9-16 will play Tuesday in the opening round.
