The UNC women’s tennis program continues to rack up wins. Three players on the team won singles titles at the Kitty Harrison Invitational, held in Chapel Hill last weekend. Fiona Crawley, Reilly Tran and Elizabeth Scotty all took titles in separate brackets.

Crawley dominated the Carolina Singles bracket, not dropping a single set in her four matches. She defeated Old Dominion’s Marina Alcaide 6-3, 6-4 in the final to clinch the title. Crawley is now a perfect 8-0 in singles matches this fall and 38-1 all-time at UNC.

Tran overcame a stiff challenge from Wake Forest’s Samantha Martinelli in the second round of the Blue Singles bracket on her way to the title. Tran dominated the first set in a 6-1 win, then dropped the second by a 2-6 score. But Tran pushed past Martinelli in the first-to-10 third set tiebreaker, winning 10-5 to advance. She handled LSU’s Ena Babic in the semifinals before dominating Carolyn Ansari of Auburn 6-2, 6-0 in the final. Tran is still unbeaten in her singles career with a 27-0 mark.

Scotty, an NCAA doubles champion, proved she’s no slouch in singles either, never dropping more than two games in a single set all tournament. After a first-round bye, Scotty dispatched opponents from Charlotte, Duke and Florida to win the Cone Singles bracket.

The UNC women’s tennis team returns to action next week at the ITA All-American Championships, held in Charleston, S.C. between October 4 and 10.
