UNC head wrestling coach Coleman Scott was named Wednesday as a volunteer assistant coach for the U.S. National Women’s Freestyle team, which is getting set to compete in the upcoming World Wrestling Championships in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan from September 17-20.

Scott will join Fresno State head coach Troy Steiner as the two coaches will assist USA Wrestling National Women’s Freestyle Coach Terry Steiner and the USA Wrestling Women’s Freestyle National Coaching Staff.

This will be the second straight year that the duo have helped out the women’s freestyle team, having helped out last year during the 2018 World Championships in Budapest–where four Americans earned medals on the way to a third place team finish.

Under Scott’s leadership, the Tar Heels have produced five All-Americans and four ACC champions since 2015. In addition, the program has finished in the top 20 at the NCAA Championships in each of the last two seasons.
