For the second time over the course of this school year, Chapel Hill High School has earned the right to celebrate a state championship in soccer.

After the Tigers took home the boys’ 3A state title in the fall, the girls’ squad completed the same feat this past Saturday at Dail Soccer Stadium in Raleigh with a 1-0 victory over Cox Mill.

Maddie Reiter scored the game’s only goal in the 16th minute on a header that came after a perfect corner kick from Isabel Leinenweber.

From there, the dominant Tiger defense did what it has all season long–shutting down the Cox Mill attack without much of a problem, other than a long free kick that clanged off the crossbar.

Chapel Hill finishes the year with a record of 19-1-1, but the most impressive part of the season was the fact that the Tigers surrendered just two goals throughout the course of those 21 games.

It was also the girls program’s second state championship, and first since 2014.
