Following their standout performances against Syracuse on Saturday, UNC quarterback Drake Maye and wide receiver Nate McCollum were each named ACC Players of the Week on Monday. At least one Tar Heel has been named one of the ACC’s Players of the Week after each of Carolina’s games this season.

Maye had his most productive game of 2023 against the Orange, completing 33 of 47 passes for 442 yards and three touchdowns and no interceptions. He added 55 yards and a touchdown on the ground. According to head coach Mack Brown, Maye’s 497 yards of total offense are the fourth-most by a single player in school history. It was all part of a season-high 644-yard performance by the UNC offense.

Maye also earned a pair of individual honors for his performance. The Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award named him to its Great 8 list, and the Manning Award listed Maye among its eight Stars of the Week.

McCollum was Maye’s top target on the day against the Orange, hauling in seven receptions for 135 yards to lead all Tar Heel receivers. This is the second time McCollum has been named the ACC’s Receiver of the Week, having done so against Minnesota after Week 3.

Maye, McCollum and the rest of the Tar Heels will be back in action on Saturday night when they host Miami at 7:30 p.m.
