While it seems likely that college football will be played in the fall in some capacity, fans will have to wait a little bit longer to find out when their team will kick off.
The FBS conferences and television networks announced on Tuesday an extension for determining the early season game times beyond the standard June 1 deadline.
Kickoff times and network designations will be announced at a later date.
UNC is set to begin the 2020 season will several marquee matchups.
The Tar Heels travel to Orlando play UCF on Friday, September 4 in a game that will be broadcast by ESPN. The following week on September 12, UNC plays Auburn in Atlanta for the 2020 Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game.
UNC plays its first home game on Saturday, September 19 against James Madison and hosts Georgia Tech on Saturday, September 26 as well.
Apart from the season opener against UCF, none of the Tar Heels’ games in September have television designations yet.
Last week, the NCAA announced that football and basketball student-athletes could return to campus on June 1 for voluntary workouts. This applies to voluntary on-campus workouts, not regular practices, and specifies that football and basketball players, not coaches, must initiate the activity.
However, a team spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday that no decision has been made on when UNC football coaches and players will return to campus.
