After some confusion surrounding a recent UNC release, 97.9 The Hill WCHL and Chapelboro.com would like to confirm that we remain the flagship station for Tar Heel sports.

“This announcement is just that the Raleigh station is changing from 106.1 to 98.5. They made a big announcement in an effort to let Triangle east listeners know,” said 97.9 The Hill General Manager Aubrey Williams. “WCHL’s flagship status does not change at all. Still the original home for the Tar Heels. We will still carry Football, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Baseball, coaches shows, pre-games, post-games and more.”

Nothing about our radio coverage will change in the upcoming season, and our listeners will be the first to know if anything changes in the future. Every sport, every show, all the Tar Heel sports content you’ve come to expect from 97.9 The Hill is staying exactly where it is. You can hear it on the radio (97.9 FM or 1360 AM), stream it online, and read about it on Chapelboro.

Our relationship with Learfield Sports/IMG College and the University of North Carolina has not changed. We’re still the flagship station for Tar Heel Sports. We’re still in Chapel Hill, right down the road from UNC, and we’ll continue to proudly be not only be your hometown radio station, but the hometown radio station for every Tar Heel — past, present and future.

97.9 The Hill coverage of Carolina Athletics goes beyond game broadcasts for basketball, football and baseball. During athletics seasons, our airwaves also carry the Mack Brown Show, formerly the Roy Williams Show, the Courtney Banghart Show and the Scott Forbes Show, as well as exclusive pre-game and post-game shows like Inside Carolina Live and On The Heels.
