This month’s feature is Main Street Cake – the sweetest little bakery in Burlington! Owner Holly Cirri recently joined us to update us on all the latest at Main Street Cake and what makes Alamance County so special in a second appearance of the local favorite bakery on the Small Surprise Spotlight!

1. Since you made the decision to open Main Street Cake, what has been the best part of owning a local bakery in downtown Burlington?

Our customers!  It is truly rewarding to get to personally know our loyal customers who stop by every week, to provide event desserts as families grow and change (from an engagement party, to a wedding, baby shower, first birthday…), and to continually meet new people, both from Burlington as well as those who are recently moving in to the area.

2. How has Alamance County proven to be a great location for your business?

Alamance County is very supportive of small businesses.  We have had wonderful experiences partnering with other small businesses and local community organizations.  We find that most of our customers are dedicated to shopping small and buying local.

3. What is unique about your bakery and the selection of delicious baked goods you offer?

We fresh bake everything on a daily basis, so our selection changes every day.  We always have cake by the slice and individual cupcakes, but our flavors (we have over 50!) change daily.  We also offer a rotating menu of other tasty treats such as brownies, cookies, and pound cake.  We have a beautiful gallery of recent cakes on our Instagram page.

4. If someone were to visit Main Street Cake, what else would you recommend they do while they’re in the area?

The Burlington City Park is just a few steps away from our bakery.  In addition to the splash park, picnic areas, playground, walking trails, and lots of concerts and events, it now houses the newly renovated, historic Dentzel Carousel, which is definitely worth stopping in to see!

5. What’s something about Alamance County that most people would be surprised to learn?

For any hikers out there, a section of the Mountain-to-Sea Park Trail passes through Alamance in the Great Bend Park and along the Haw River.

6. What is your favorite thing on the current Main Street Cake Menu?

Cherry Vanilla and Coconut are definitely my favorite flavors, but it is hard for me to resist our Lemon Bars.

7. How has your business grown since last year and how do you hope to continue to grow?

During this past year, we were able to build a really strong bakery team when we hired several very talented, dedicated employees.  This expansion has allowed us to offer online ordering, as well as more dessert bar ideas and options for wedding and events. Our future plan is to increase our public storefront hours to provide customers with sweet treats all week long.
