This month’s First Watch First Responder – presented by First Watch, The Daytime Cafe at East 54 – is Captain Will Potter!

Captain Will Potter grew up in Carrboro, and his love for Fire Service began early. At age 13, Will  participated in his first ride-along program with the department. In March of 2007, after attending a Fire Academy in Chapel Hill, he began as a full-time firefighter and progressed through the ranks of Fire Driver, Fire Lieutenant and his current position of Training Captain.

In March 2020,  Orange County Emergency Services requested assistance with a COVID “strike team.” The team was designed to provide COVID tests in the entire County, focusing on facilities where COVID outbreaks occurred, and provide education on COVID prevention to businesses and long-term care facilities. According to his fellow firefighters, in addition to his regular duties as our Training Captain, Potter would spend 10-12 hours a day working with the strike team. He continued his work with this team until December, when testing decreased and the vaccinations increased.
