“Built The Right Way” is a bi-monthly interview series sponsored by Marvin Windows and Doors, featuring interviews with experts involving in home building, development, construction, architecture and everything in between! Join 97.9 The Hill in each iteration to learn something new about what it takes — and what it means— to build the right way!

In the this episode of “Built The Right Way,” join 97.9 The Hill’s Aaron Keck for a conversation with David Fitch, of Fitch Lumber and Hardware, as well as Nora Spencer, founder of Hope Renovations!

“We’re still pretty young,” said Spencer. “[Hope Renovations is] only four years old, but we empower women and gender expansive folks into careers in the construction industry through our training program. We also help older adults age in place —  so, our trainees get to go out with our construction crew and get their hands dirty doing renovations and repairs for seniors in the community. I love that aspect of it, and I know we’ve talked about this before, giving people training who don’t ordinarily have access to it and then doing it in the context of, ‘oh, we’re gonna help people who don’t ordinarily get access to that help.'”

Working closely in the community to build better futures is a big part of the efforts made by both Spencer and Fitch in their respective organizations.

“We always like to stay involved and there’s so much need in our community in general that gets overlooked,” said Fitch. “A lot of those needs you don’t really know about until you experience that for yourself or someone close to you.”
