UNC grounds crews are working to remove a tree from one of the oldest parts of campus Tuesday morning.
According to UNC Facilities Services, an oak tree on the historic McCorkle Place was recently deemed at risk for uprooting. To prevent it from falling during inclement weather, maintenance and grounds crews are working to remove it through the day.
The facilities department warned pedestrians walking on McCorkle Place to remain alert and to avoid entering the restricted area set up by the university workers.

The removal of this tree comes not long after another tree on McCorkle Place recently was toppled by bad weather. A 150-year-old tree fell and damaged the nearby Alumni Hall in May during a rain storm, taking days to clear the debris from campus grounds.
