On Monday, UNC Chancellor Carol Folt announced her resignation in a letter to the student body of the university.

In the letter, she said it was the “privilege of [her] life to serve as chancellor of this great university” and authorized UNC to remove the remainder of the Silent Sam monument at McCorkle Place.

Speaking on his radio show — “Roy Williams Live” — last night, Roy Williams reacted to the news of Folt’s resignation.

“The last year or so, it’s been a very difficult time,” said Williams. “She’s been in a no-win situation.”

“She’s just done an admirable job,” he continued. “She’s been tough enough under the really tough circumstances with the NCAA stuff, and now the stuff about Silent Sam.”

Williams has been vocal about his thoughts regarding the Confederate monument known as Silent Sam, saying “it would be best if it was not here” at a press conference in December.

He was also supportive of his players signing a letter calling for the removal of the statue from campus. The letter, constructed by a former UNC athlete, has nearly 300 signatures from current and former UNC student-athletes.

“If they feel that way,” Williams said at the time. “I have zero problems. I am glad they are expressing themselves.”

Folt’s unexpected departure has been the subject of some controversy, but Williams wishes her nothing but the best in the future.

“It’s just been a very difficult time,” Williams said on his radio show. “I hope she moves along, gets her beach house, gets her chair, sits out there on the beach and thinks about all the problems somebody else can be handling, not her.”
