The Carolina community was shocked on Sunday to hear of the passing of Dean Smith, the legendary UNC basketball coach whose legacy extended far beyond the court.

Throughout the day on Sunday, mourners left flowers and notes outside the entrance to the Smith Center, the basketball arena that bears his name – while inside the Smith Center, current UNC head coach Roy Williams and other current and former players and coaches shared their memories of the man so many called a “second father.”
