UNC recently shared the news to incoming new students that summer orientations will be held entirely online.

The announcement came in an email from the university’s New Student & Family Programs on Monday. Both on its website and in the email, the program said the change has been made in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and UNC’s actions to protect student health. The message said more details on the virtual orientations will be revealed in the next few weeks and thanked students and families for their patience.

According to the New Student & Family Programs website, signups for New Student Orientations will still be required. Registration for the mandatory, two-day long process for new students will begin in mid-April.

The move is the latest element of UNC operations to be disrupted due to the new coronavirus. The university previously moved to entirely remote instruction in March for the rest of spring semester, as well as announcing upcoming summer courses will be taken online. Campus operations have also been significantly reduced in an effort to have students stay at home or, if no other option is available, in residence halls.
