Mary Margaret Frank, who spent more than two decades in the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business, has been named the dean of UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School, effective August 15. Frank holds both a master’s degree and a doctorate from Kenan-Flagler.
“It is an honor to return to UNC Kenan-Flagler, where I felt valued as a student and launched my career,” Frank said. “I welcome to opportunity to continue to innovate with the community of accomplished scholars, passionate educators, dedicated staff, talented students, and loyal alumni where together, I am confident we can create positive, sustainable impact in the state and around the world.”
With UVA’s Darden School of Business, Frank coordinated and managed recruitment of faculty, created faculty development plans and helped address the pandemic’s impact on connectivity across the school. Frank was also the school’s John Tyler Professor of Business Administration. Prior to arriving at Darden, Frank taught at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business.
In addition, Frank has taught in Kenan-Flagler’s Master of Accounting program and collaborated with both doctoral students and faculty at Carolina on research. She was also an academic fellow to the UNC Tax Center.
“Mary Margaret joins UNC Kenan-Flagler as we prepare to serve even more future leaders through the building of UNC Kenan-Flagler’s new Steven D. Bell Hall and the expansion of our world-class undergraduate business program,” read a statement from UNC chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz and chief academic officer J. Christopher Clemens. “Her expertise and experience will be invaluable to a school already known for excellence in cultivating discerning, collaborative problem-solvers through research and teaching.”
Frank will replace Jennifer Conrad, who has been serving as Kenan-Flagler’s interim dean for nine months. Doug Shackleford, the school’s previous full-time dean, announced his resignation last September after holding the deanship since 2014.
