Friday is the final day of classes for UNC students’ spring semester, one that ended very differently from any before it.

Typically on the last day of classes, called LDOC by students, campus is filled with various celebrations, giveaways and performances across campus. With the COVID-19 pandemic moving the university to remote instruction and reducing operations, though, it’s not the typical scene.

Many of UNC’s a capella groups decided to join force on a project to still show school spirit despite being away from campus. Nine groups, including the Walk-Ons, the Tarpeggios, and Tar Heel Voices, recorded calls of their members singing ‘Hark the Sound’ together. UNC Video Content Producer Rob Holliday put the individual performances together to create one, big version of the song.

You can watch the video shared by the university below.

An LDOC spent at home is not the only unusual way the university will end its academic year. As of now, the Class of 2020’s commencement ceremony has been indefinitely postponed. Dates later in the year are being discussed for the event if the coronavirus pandemic has subsided.

UNC students will begin final exams on Sunday.
