Chapel Hill police are investigating after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle Thursday evening on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

The collision happened around 7:40 p.m., near Taylor Street between Estes Drive and Homestead Road. Town officials say the pedestrian was taken to UNC Hospitals with “serious injuries,” while the driver remained on the scene.

As of 8:30 p.m., one northbound lane of MLK Boulevard remained closed while the investigation continued.

Update: Chapel Hill Police have reported the pedestrian, identified as Christian Albert Ball, 63, died at UNC Hospitals of injuries sustained in the collision.
