One person was killed in a wreck that shut down a portion of I-40 Eastbound in Orange County on Sunday, according to multiple reports.

During periods of heavy rain throughout the day, several crashes closed portions of interstates across the Triangle.

The fatal crash just after 6:15 Sunday evening shut down all of I-40 East near Hillsborough for nearly two hours. Officials reported the road was reopened around eight o’clock Sunday night.

The identity of the individual who died in the crash is unknown as of this posting.
