Dimmocks Mill Road in Hillsborough is closed between Eno Mountain Road and Eno Street due to a water main break.
The 8-inch main is believed to have been broken due to the extreme temperature swings in recent days. In a release, the Town of Hillsborough said it will notify the public when the road is reopened.
Crews have been working around the clock to ensure that roads are safe for driving. Low temperatures overnight caused black ice to form, which has already contributed to at least one car accident this morning in Chapel Hill.
Authorities are warning residents to stay off the roads in the morning hours when the icy roads make for dangerous driving conditions.
