****UPDATE: Officials have cleared the wreck and the roadway has been reopened.****

Westbound lanes of I-40 are closed in Durham County due to a vehicle wreck, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

Officials say a detour has been established near Highway 147, but motorists are encouraged to avoid the area entirely, if possible.

There is no timeline for when the interstate lanes would reopen as of 4:15 Thursday afternoon.
