Chatham Central High School and Bonlee Elementary School were placed on lockdown before 9 a.m. Wednesday morning, school officials confirmed.
A Chatham County Schools spokesperson said that the lockdown was for precautionary reasons and came at the request of the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office. There is no known activity on either campus causing the lockdown.
Officials with the Sheriff’s Office said that suspects ran from a stole vehicle in the area. Two suspects were taken into custody and one suspect remained at large as of 9:35 a.m.
The two schools are located within three miles of each other and are southwest of Pittsboro.
