More than 2,000 Duke Energy Chapel Hill customers were without power after an outage occurred Tuesday afternoon. The outage is affecting customers in the areas surrounding University Place.

According to the outage map, the outage around University Place affected about 1,200 customers. The outage was reported shortly before 2:30 p.m. The outage affecting the Ephesus Church Road community affected about 630 customers. That outage was also reported around 2:30 p.m. Both outages had power restored shortly before 5 p.m.

Nearly 400 customers in the Colonial Heights neighborhood off Martin Luther King, Jr Boulevard are without power. The outage was reported around 3:15 p.m. with a restoration time estimated for 8:45 p.m.

Chapel Hill Fire Department said a tree fell on a power line along Umstead Road at Bradley Road. Duke Energy is on the scene, but the road may be closed for several hours.
