Authorities responded to Orange High School on Tuesday after reports of a fight on campus.

The altercation involved “several students” and occurred at the end of lunch Tuesday, according to a message from Orange County Schools.

Deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and Hillsborough Police officers responded to the scene.

“We take any issue of school safety seriously, and we will always respond with keeping our students safe as the highest priority,” district officials wrote Tuesday.

Orange County Sheriff Charles Blackwood wrote in a post on Facebook that the deputies work “to make certain our students and staff have a safe place to learn, grow and express themselves. We remain committed to this goal.”

WRAL is reporting that six students were arrested in connection with the fight and that an assistant principal was transported to a hospital for evaluation and treatment. ABC11 reported that those arrested made appearances in Orange County Court on Wednesday.

Classes resumed after the altercation.
