The Training and Education Committee of the North Carolina Domestic Violence Commission awarded a Purple Ribbon of Excellence to the Orange County Rape Crisis Center on Monday.
The purpose of the award is to recognize programs related to domestic and sexual violence that exhibit excellence in community education, outreach, and prevention.
OCRCC won the award for designing and teaching multiple curricula that target children, adolescents, adults, and professionals that may encounter sexual violence.
Over 1,000 programs were presented by OCRCC to nearly 16,000 audience members from August of 2015 to May of 2016, with most of those presentations having occurred in public schools.
Among those programs are Safe Touch, which enables children to identify physical boundaries, and Proud of What You Post, which focuses on internet safety.
OCRCC is located at 1506 East Franklin Street in Chapel Hill and provides a variety of confidential services to survivors of sexual violence at no cost.
