A downed power line along a popular Chapel Hill road means traffic briefly diverted traffic on Tuesday morning as repairs were made.

An alert shared by the Town of Chapel Hill said a stretch of East Franklin Street was closed after a truck snagged nearby utility lines and dragged them down. Police closed the road from Howell Lane to Roosevelt Drive, which means Deming Road was also blocked off. There were no injuries reported in the downing of the power lines, according to the Town of Chapel Hill.

Around 11:28 a.m., Duke Energy reported about 650 customers were experiencing an outage because of the damaged pole and lines. The outage briefly affected the East Franklin Street corridor and surrounding neighborhoods, reaching as far west as Hillsborough Street and Raleigh Street. By 11:50 a.m., however, the outage was cleared on the utility company’s website.

Chapel Hill Police encouraged motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians to use Howell Lane and Roosevelt Drive — which creates a loop around the affected area — as a detour while repairs were made. But just before noon, the police department shared that the road had re-opened to traffic.
