Danielle Jones, PhD, the new superintendent for Orange County Schools, will be hosting a series of town hall meetings around the community in February and March. In addition, Jones will hold one-on-one listening sessions with educators before visiting all thirteen district schools.

“Our goal is to have no low-performing schools, and for every child to graduate with all options available to them for the future,” Jones said. “That’s why we call come to work every day. We need systems in place now so we can all contribute directly to those goals for every student.”

All three town hall meetings will take place from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The first is scheduled for February 26 at Mt. Zion AME Church in Cedar Grove, the second for March 7 at the Efland-Cheeks Community Center, and the third for March 11 at the Whitted Human Services Building in Hillsborough. Spanish interpretation will be available.

Before the meetings, the public is encouraged to take a short survey here, which asks three basic questions:

  1. What do you love most about Orange County Schools, and why?
  2. As a school system, what positive changes can we focus on making?
  3. What initiatives would you like to see us implement as a school district?

“Tell us what you want for our students and their futures,” Jones said, “because we are all fully committed to working together with you for every child in every school, every single day.”

Jones was hired in December, and her tenure officially began on February 1. She previously served as assistant superintendent for middle schools with Durham Public Schools, and also has held positions in Franklin and Wake Counties.
