The Compass Center for Women and Families is launching a new campaign to provide more domestic violence emergency housing for the Orange County community.

The Compass Center is a nonprofit that “helps people navigate their journeys toward self-sufficiency, safety, and health.”

Now, in the midst of a pandemic, the Compass Center is set to launch its “Safe Homes, New Lives” campaign. Safe Homes, New Lives will provide scattered emergency housing to victims fleeing violence in Orange County.

According to their press release, Orange County has lacked a domestic violence shelter for more than two decades, and Compass Center has been actively working for the last few years to bridge this gap.

The socially-distanced public launch for this campaign is scheduled for Tuesday, July 21 at 10 a.m. at Scroggs Elementary School.  Speakers will include Orange County Sheriff Charles Blackwood, local restauranteur and Honorary Campaign Co-Chair Vimala Rajendran and County Commission Chair Penny Rich.

Community members will be able to attend the launch virtually through a Facebook live.
