Tracks Music Library, which launched this past summer, is currently seeking Triangle-area musicians to submit work that could be used on a streaming platform dedicated to local music.

The goal of the platform designed by Chapel Hill Public Library and Chapel Hill Community Arts & Culture is to represent the diverse sounds of the Triangle area and introduce artists to new listeners.

Currently, there are over 70 albums in the collection spanning a broad range of different genres. A total of 25 new submissions will be added in the second round, based on quality and diversity.

Some local figures who have already added to the collection include: Come Hear North Carolina Advisor Billy Maupin, Kat Harding of the North Carolina Museum of Art, Southern Folklife Collection curator Steve Weiss and Vibehouse 405 owner, producer, and artist Kevin “Kaze” Thomas.

In a recent interview for INDY Week, Thomas said, “I think that we are the most talented musical community in our country. I do. Nashville is cool… Atlanta is cool…But the sauce comes from Carolina, baby, I don’t care where you go; that sauce is gonna come from Carolina. It’s gonna be in the mix, and the world loves it.”

For musicians and bands interested in submitting work to the collection, the music must have been made in the last two years and they must hold the rights. Three songs can be submitted for consideration and a minimum of five songs or 30 minutes of material is needed if selected.

The deadline to submit music at the Tracks Music Library website is set for Jan. 31.
